How to Help Your Child Read at Home

Before You Read

• Picture Books - Explore the pictures
• Chapter Books - Read the information on the front and back cover to excite your child about the story
• Predict what you think the story will be about.

Ways to Read

• Read to your child
• Read with your child (you read a page/they read the next page)
• Listen to your child read
• Let your child read independently and then discuss the book with them

During and After Reading

• Use bookmark questions (included with your child's books) to make sure your child understands what they read
• Follow the same steps with any book
